FM Ahern will learn the position of the Israeli government on the issue of UN reforms and advance bilateral ties between Israel and Ireland.
(Communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman)
Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern arrived in Israel on July 12 for a two-day visit as a guest of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom.
During the course of the visit, Minister Ahern will meet with Minister Shalom and Vice Premier Shimon Peres. He will also visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.
The visit of the Irish foreign minister comprises two elements: the mandate he received from the UN secretary-general to learn the position of the Israeli government on the issue of UN reforms and to advance bilateral ties between Israel and Ireland.
The visit is a reflection of the warm relations between Israel and Ireland. Minister Ahern also met with his Israeli counterpart a few weeks ago in Brussels.
