(Communicated by the Vice Premier’s Media Adviser)

On Sunday, June 26, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, members of the Israeli Interministerial Committee on the Crossings, which was formed under the auspices of the office of Vice Premier Shimon Peres, met with their Palestinian counterparts at the Erez and Karni terminals.

The meeting was held in a good atmosphere. The participants from the Office of Vice Premier Shimon Peres, the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the Attorney-General, as well as the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, discussed the construction of a temporary crossing at the Erez Industrial Zone to facilitate the movement of economic goods until a permanent structure is constructed at a new planned terminal. This temporary crossing is slated to be completed prior to the disengagement to enable the continuous flow of goods after disengagement and until a permanent crossing at a new terminal is constructed.

At Karni, the Israeli participants discussed with their Palestinian counterparts the planned technological improvements to upgrade the terminal’s capacity and help expedite the movement of products in the near future.

Sunday’s meeting was the third working meeting on the issue of the crossings within one week, following the meeting headed by Minister Haim Ramon and Palestinian Minister for Civilians Affairs Muhammad Dahlan in Jerusalem on June 20 and the working meeting at She’ar Efraim (near Tulkarm) on June 22.
