Jordanian Foreign Minister Hani Fawzi al-Mulki arrives Saturday night (March 5) for a two-day visit as the guest of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom.
In addition to meeting with his host, Foreign Minister al-Mulki will also meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Vice Premier Shimon Peres.
This is the first visit to Israel by a Jordanian foreign minister since April 2001. It follows the return to Israel of Jordan’s ambassador last month.
Israel views the visit of the Jordanian foreign minister as an additional important opportunity to enhance, to further, and to strengthen bilateral relations, which are good and reflect many common interests.
Israeli-Jordanian relations are marked by gradual and continuous improvement. In the commercial sphere, the volume of mutual trade in 2004 reached $184 million, of which $133m. were Israeli exports to Jordan and $51m. Jordanian exports to Israel.
