Prime Minister Ariel Sharon last evening (Wednesday, October 5, 2005) spoke with Jordanian King Abdullah II, who had telephoned in order to wish him a happy New Year.  The prime minister wished King Abdullah easy fasts on the occasion of Ramadan, which began yesterday.

King Abdullah said that he hopes the coming month, which is sacred to all peoples, would be successful and would lead to positive results in the region.  He added that Jordan is bound to assist both sides in advancing the diplomatic process and said that he had spoken about this yesterday with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Prime Minister Sharon said that he intends to meet with the PA chairman next week in order to advance various issues on the agenda.

The prime minister invited King Abdullah to visit Israel and the two men agreed to meet soon.
