Asher Weissgan, 38, of Shvut Rahel, shot to death four Palestinians with whom he worked and wounded two others, one of them seriously.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon this evening (Wednesday), 17 August 2005, referred to today’s terrorist attack in Shilo and said that he views with utmost gravity this act of Jewish terrorism, which was directed at innocent Palestinians in the warped desire to thereby stop the Disengagement Plan.

Prime Minister Sharon spoke this evening with Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, Israel Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi and ISA Director Yuval Diskin following the attack and instructed them to treat with utmost seriousness any attempt to attack innocent people.

Sharon said that the suspect was in custody and would be punished as strongly as possible.

Asher Weissgan, 38, of Shvut Rahel, shot to death four Palestinians with whom he worked and wounded two others, one of them seriously. The shooting took place just after 5 P.M. in the industrial area of the West Bank settlement of Shilo. Weissgan, a driver, was preparing to transport Palestinian workers from the industrial zone back to their homes at the end of the day’s work. He shot dead two Palestinian who were in the vehicle, then opened fire in an aluminum factory. 

The victims have been identified as Mohammed Mansour, 48, and Bassam Tauase, 30, both from the Nablus region; Halil Salah, 42, from Qalqilyah; and Osama Moussa Tawafsha, 33, from the village of Sanjil. The killer was overpowered by a security guard at the scene and taken to the police station where he was arrested.​
