Singapore Senior Minister Goh visits Israel

Former Singapore prime minister Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong arrived in Israel on May 18 for a four-day visit.

During his visit Minister Goh met with President Moshe Katsav, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Labor Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer.

In his meetings Minister Goh discussed the situation in the Middle East leading up to the implementation of Israel’s Disengagement Plan, as well as the chances for renewing the political process in the region following disengagement.

Senior Minister Goh also heard an evaluation by his hosts of the economic situation in Israel and of plans for economic reforms.

In the framework of the visit, a bilateral agreement on double taxation was signed and discussions were held on the possibility of broadening cooperation on research and development.
