(Communicated by the IDF Spokesman and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories)
The Israeli defense establishment monitors the supply reserves in the Gaza Strip based on supplies entering Gaza through the various crossings.
The data available shows that the current inventory of basic goods in the Gaza Strip is in ample supply. For example the flour supply in Gaza is expected to last over a month. The current estimated amount of fuel available at gas stations throughout Gaza stands at 1,300,000 liters.
Israel continues to supply the majority of electricity to the Gaza Strip and in light of the current situation has increased the amount of electricity it supplies.
Israel will continue to closely monitor the economic and humanitarian situation in Gaza and will work to transfer essential goods and fuel into Gaza in the coming days based on Palestinian demand and with the aim of preventing future shortages.
The IDF will continue to operate in a cautious and measured manner to reduce the risk of harming the Palestinian civilian population and will work to minimize the disruption of the flow of essential goods to the Gaza Strip. At the same time the IDF will continue with its ongoing operation to secure the quick and safe release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit and targeting terror cells and terrorist infrastructure.
