The Foreign Minister of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier, will arrive in Israel on Sunday, February 12. This will be his first visit to Israel since he assumed the post of foreign minister.
During the visit, the German Foreign Minister will meet with Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, his counterpart, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu and Labor leader Amir Peretz. Mr. Steinmeier will also visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Authority.
During the visit, discussions will focus on significant issues on the Middle East agenda and bilateral relations. Last year, Germany and Israel marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two countries have established extensive cooperation in a variety of areas, including the economic, defense, scientific and cultural realms.
