 Israel and Spain mark 20 years of diplomatic relations

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos will arrive in Israel to participate in a ceremony hosted by the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Moshe Katsav, on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, marking the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Spain.

During his visit, the Spanish Foreign Minister will also meet with Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as well as with Minister Tzipi Livni and other officials.

Israel and Spain plan to mark the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations throughout 2006 in a series of political, cultural, economic and scientific events and ceremonies. In order to formulate a joint program of action, a committee has been drawn up headed by the fifth President of the State of Israel, Mr. Yitzhak Navon and the former Spanish Minister of Culture and author, Mr. Jorge Semprun.

Israel and Spain enjoy friendly ties.
