Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this morning (Thursday), 14 September 2006, spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called to update the Prime Minister on the German Cabinet’s decision yesterday to allow German naval deployment along the Lebanese coast. She emphasized that Germany wants to help advance the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution #1701.

Prime Minister Olmert thanked Chancellor Merkel for her personal involvement and for Germany’s contribution in implementing UN Security Council Resolution #1701, especially Germany’s assistance regarding the release of the abducted soldiers.

Chancellor Merkel invited Prime Minister Olmert to visit Germany; the two agreed to meet soon. They also discussed the Palestinian issue.
