Summary of IDF activity in the Gaza Strip – June 30

IDF forces attacked several terror targets in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of June 30, 2006. Among these was a cell which attempted to fire an anti-tank missile at forces situated in the Dahaniya area, in the southern Gaza Strip.

All additional targets were being used by terror organizations to further their attempts to attack Israel. According to IDF information, people were not present at any of the sites during the attack:

  • The office of the Hamas Minister of Interior in the city of Gaza. This office was used by the Hamas leadership to plan and direct terrorist attacks.
  • An Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades warehouse in the city of Gaza, used to manufacture and store weapons.
  • 22 access routes and open areas in the central and northern Gaza Strip used by terror organizations in their activities against Israel.
  • Two Hamas training camps in the city of Gaza.
  • An Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades training camp in the city of Gaza.
  • A Hamas office in Jabaliya.
  • An Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades office in the city of Gaza.

The IDF firmly denies Palestinian claims that it targeted a transformer station in Gaza during the night. The IAF clearly identified every target it hit in the central Gaza Strip and can confirm that no transformer station was hit. A misfired Qassam rocket hit an electricity transformer station in southern Gaza, which may have caused some of the power outages. We are also aware of reports that an electricity pole was hit in the northern Gaza Strip, and are checking if the source was IDF artillery fire.
