Message from Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
Sixteen years have passed since the murderous attack on the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, in which 29 people lost their lives and dozens were wounded – a terror attack in which innocent Israelis and Argentineans, Jews and Christians, died.
As proven in the investigation of the attack on the AMIA building of the Buenos Aires Jewish community, Iran, a state which supports terror, was behind the attack, which was carried out by its auxiliary arm, Hizbullah, both of which continue to sow destruction and terror in Israel and throughout the world.
The world is divided today between terrorists and their extremist supporters and those who aspire to peace, freedom and democracy. The only way to maintain our world free from these murderers is through uncompromising war, with the close cooperation of the democracies of the world. This is an onerous war in which we, unlike our enemies, are compelled to uphold human dignity and the sanctity of human life. The terrorists, on the contrary, do not shrink from any means, deliberately murdering civilians, women and children, and using civilians as shields and behind whom they seek to conceal their actions.
Even if this war will be long and protracted, together we will defeat and overcome them, by the strength of our belief in the justice of our path and our struggle.
The Argentine government and the entire free world must take action in order that the murderers, who twice struck in Buenos Aires, will not remain free from punishment. I call upon the free world to take part, with determination and without hesitation, in the all-out struggle against terror. Any delay, any hesitation, enables terror to grow and to claim more innocent victims.
Israel will continue to act vigorously against terror and its agents, while simultaneously conducting negotiations to resolve the conflict for the sake of the peoples of the region.
