Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met in Paris with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. President Sarkozy reiterated that France will not have any contact with Hamas.

Foreign Minister Livni updated the President on the peace process with the Palestinians, the situation in Gaza and the Iranian issue. President Sarkozy is scheduled to visit Israel next month as France assumes the rotating presidency of the European Union on July 1.

From the meeting they proceeded to Trocadero Square at the foot of the Eiffel Tower where FM Livni addressed a gathering marking the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence. FM Livni said:

"I have come here to tell you that we share the same values and the same hopes. We face the same threats. Together we will fight anti-Semitism and racism. Together we will overcome terror. Together we will achieve peace. I promise you that we will do everything to achieve peace with our Arab neighbors, in order to transform the Middle East into a tranquil and flourishing region."
