Senator Obama and Foreign Minister Livni discuss terrorism, Iran, and the situation in the Gaza Strip. Livni: The world must take a firm stand against terrorism.

Communicated by Foreign Minister’s Bureau

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni spoke yesterday (11 March) with Senator Barack Obama, who called her while she was visiting Washington. Minister Livni told him that Iran is directly linked to terrorism in the Middle East and that the international community must confront terrorism and Iran with a strong and firm stand. The situation in the Gaza Strip is serious and connected to arms smuggling. Many Israeli civilians are living under the threat of Hamas missiles. Israel is implementing a dual strategy of trying to reach understandings with the moderates while at the same time striking hard at terrorism. Its chance of success is partly dependent on the rest of the world denying legitimacy to Hamas’s behavior and taking firm action against terrorism.
