MFA Dir-Gen Aaron Abramovich has directed Israel’s UN delegation to emphasize the damage and suffering caused by the incessant firing of Kassam rockets at Sderot and the western Negev, and the fact that Israel is acting in self-defense.
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
The Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Aaron Abramovich, has directed Israel’s UN delegation to oppose any resolution in the Security Council regarding Gaza, while emphasizing the damage and suffering caused by the incessant firing of Kassam rockets at Sderot and other cities and communities nearby, and the fact that Israel is acting in self-defense. "A situation in which the Security Council debates the plight of the residents of Gaza, while completely ignoring the situation of Israelis living under the constant threat of Kassam rockets, is totally unacceptable," Mr. Abramovich said.
Mr. Abramovich issued the directive this morning (Tuesday, 22 January 2008) after a discussion held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the developments in Gaza, in light of the expected debate today in the Security Council. The MFA has also approached several members of the Security Council in order to gain their support on this issue.
All Israeli diplomatic missions have been instructed to continue their efforts to clarify the recent steps taken by Israel against Gaza-based terror. MFA officials will brief foreign ambassadors to Israel on this issue today.
