(Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser)
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this morning (Tuesday), 28 October 2008, met with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith. The two men emphasized the strong and friendly state of bilateral relations that has prevailed since the establishment of the State of Israel 60 years ago.
Prime Minister Olmert commended the Australian government’s decision two weeks ago to impose special sanctions on Iran above and beyond those that have been imposed by the UN Security Council. He said that while there were countries that talked about the danger of a nuclear Iran, Australia is among those that also take action. The Prime Minister added that Australia needs to be an example to other countries to increase international pressure on the Tehran regime so that it halts its nuclear program.
