Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is due to arrive in Israel on Thursday 20 March, as part of an official visit to the region. FM Lavrov will also visit Syria and the Palestinian Authority. During his visit to Israel, FM Lavrov will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Vice Prime Minister and minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni.

This is a reciprocal visit by FM Lavrov to FM Livni’s visit to Moscow in January 2008, and its purpose is a mutual updating on issues relating to the political process in the Middle East and on bilateral issues.

During the visit, FM Livni and FM Lavrov will sign a mutual visa exemption agreement. The agreement will come into effect 90 days after it has been ratified by both sides.
