FM Livni and US envoy Mitchell discussed the humanitarian problem in Gaza, the forthcoming conference of donor states and the Iranian issue.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met today (Thursday, 26 February 2009) with US envoy George Mitchell. FM Livni emphasized the common interest of Israel and the United States in strengthening the moderates in the region, while at the same time continuing to combat terror. FM Livni stated that Israel is party to continued humanitarian aid efforts to the Gaza Strip, while at the same time preventing the strengthening of Hamas rule.
In preparation for the conference of donor states next week in Sharm-a-Sheikh, FM Livni stressed that the conference must create a foundation that will assist the legitimate Palestinian Authority and aid the citizens of Gaza.
With regard to Iran, FM Livni emphasized the necessity of continued action by the international community, keeping in mind that the Iranian issue is a problem of the entire region.
