President Shimon Peres harshly condemns mosque fire

President Shimon Peres released a statement today harshly condemning the burning of a mosque in Kfar Yasuf. The President stated: "This grave act of arson stands against all the values of the State of Israel and its obligation to respect all faiths and beliefs. The government, security forces, and enforcement officials must use all means possible to find those guilty and bring them to trail for their grave acts."

The President added, "An extremist group cannot jeopardize Israel’s fundamental respect for the law and tolerance of all faiths."

PM Netanyahu condemns mosque attack

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Saturday), 12 December 2009, strongly condemns the attack on the mosque in Kfar Yasuf and has ordered the security services to act determinedly in order to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister reiterated that there is no place for violence of any sort, neither Jews against Palestinians nor Palestinians against Jews, and added that the government will act aggressively against any and all displays of violence.


IDF condemns vandalism of Palestinian mosque

This morning, the Civil Administration received a complaint of vandalism of a mosque in Kafr Yasuf, located southwest of Nablus. From an initial investigation into the incident it appears that the suspects wrote hate-filled messages in Hebrew in addition to burning bookshelves and a carpet. 

The head of the Civil Administration, Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai spoke personally with the PA Governor of Salfit and other members of the Palestinian Authority and conveyed that the  IDF and security forces are working to locate the perpetrators, that the Israel Defense Forces views the incident gravely and that it will be dealt with accordingly by the Israeli law enforcement agencies.
