DFM Ayalon: The United States will not agree to a nuclear Iran.
(Communicated by Deputy Foreign Minister’s Bureau)
Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon, who is in Washington on an official visit, held meetings on Tuesday (April 27) with senior American senators and congressmen. The main topic of discussion was Iran. On Wednesday, both the Senate and the House of Representatives will begin discussions on legislation to impose harsh sanctions against Iran.
After the meetings, Ayalon said, “The clock is ticking. The discussions beginning tomorrow send an unequivocal message to the international community, and to Iran in particular, that the United States will not agree to a nuclear Iran.” Ayalon expressed hope that following the process in the US, parliaments throughout the world will also propose legislation that will lead to harsh sanctions against Iran.
Later in the day, Deputy FM Ayalon will meet with his American counterpart, Dep. Secretary of State James Steinberg, and other senior government officials.
