(Communicated by Foreign Minister’s Bureau)

I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the immense tragedy, in which H.E. President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, the first lady, Maria kaczynska, and the honorable and prominent representatives of the Polish government and society, lost their lives, heading to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn crime and death of innocent people.

I had the privilege to meet president Kaczynski, a month and a half ago, in Kiev. As always, he was very attuned to Israel’s challenges, being a true friend of Israel and of the Jewish people.
The late President Kaczynski played a crucial role in forming strong and meaningful bonds between Israel and Poland.

I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences, to the families of the deceased and to the people of Poland.
