Uncontained terrorism can have devastating consequences beyond any country’s own borders. "The international community must undertake greater efforts to addresses the challenges of arms smuggling."
(Communicated by the Deputy Foreign Minister’s Bureau)
Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, heading the Israeli delegation to the Symposium on International Counter-terrorism Cooperation, addressed the forum on Monday (19 September). The Deputy FM reviewed Israel’s contributions to the global fight to eradicate terrorism and to the protection of borders and aviation security around the world.
In his speech, Ayalon noted Iran’s sponsoring of global terror, specifically Hizbullah and Hamas. He warned about the growing link between drug routes and drug money, and terrorism and terror funding. He called on all states interested in peace to join together to combat terrorism: "The international community must undertake greater efforts to addresses the challenges of arms smuggling. States sponsoring terrorism, such as Iran, as well as terrorist networks, continue to provide flows of advanced weaponry to terrorists."
After his speech, Deputy FM Ayalon expressed regret that not all of the NATO member states saw fit to support Israel’s position at the session.
