A total of 5,439 trucks carrying 146,829 tons of goods entered the Gaza Strip from Israel through the Kerem Shalom land crossing in May. The imported goods included 1,441 truckloads of construction materials.
Also last month, 54 truckloads of goods were exported from the Gaza Strip for sale in foreign markets. The goods – including packaging equipment, flowers and spices – were first transferred to Israel via the Kerem Shalom crossing and then shipped abroad.
Throughout May, 5,785 Palestinians entered Israel through the Erez Terminal pedestrian crossing. Among those who crossed from Gaza into Israel were businesspeople and patients seeking medical care in Israeli hospitals.
Since 2010, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) has approved 261 internationally sponsored projects for the benefit of Gaza’s civilian population, of which 90 have already been completed and 81 are currently underway.
