The Israel Security Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet security service) recorded 51 terrorist attacks in August.
Although the overall number represents a decrease compared to July, which saw 64 terror incidents, there was a rise in terror activity in Jerusalem and in terror attacks launched against Israel from the Sinai Peninsula.
During August, there were two attacks that originated from the Sinai Peninsula. The first was a combined infiltration on August 5th, during which a group of terrorists attacked an Egyptian army base, stealing a pair of armored vehicles. They proceeded to infiltrate the Israeli border near Kibbutz Kerem Shalom. As a result, a foreign worker was slightly injured by an exploding vehicle. In addition, there were rockets fired from Sinai towards Eilat on August 15th.
Nine terror incidents were recorded in Jerusalem in August, compared to six in July. Judea and Samaria saw 19 terror attacks in August, compared to 30 in July. Similarly, the Gaza Strip area saw 21 attacks in August, compared to 28 in July.
There was also an increase in the total number of rockets fired against Israel. During the month of August, 21 rockets and three mortars were launched towards Israel, as compared to 18 rockets launched in July.
