n a joint IDF (Zahal)-ISA operation on Tuesday night (May 25), the Israel Air Force struck a terror tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip and a terror tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip. The tunnels were located one kilometer from the security fence and were intended for infiltrating into Israel and executing terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF (Zahal) soldiers. Direct hits were identified.

The attack was carried out in response to the firing of two mortar shells that hit the Ashkelon Shore Regional Council earlier on Tuesday.

Four rockets and mortars were fired from the Gaza Strip in the past week, hitting Israel. Approximately 50 rockets have been fired at Israeli territory since the beginning of 2010, and over 330 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel since the end of Operation Cast Lead in January 2009.

The IDF (Zahal) remains committed to protecting the citizens of Israel and will continue to act against terror. The IDF (Zahal) holds the Hamas terror organization solely responsible for terror emanating from the Gaza Strip.
