The second annual IDF (Zahal) art competition, ‘Colors in a Barrel’ came to a close on Thursday (February 2), with a special ceremony honoring the winners and all the competitors. The competition, funded by the Association for the Wellbeing of Israel’s soldiers (AWIS), presents artwork by IDF (Zahal) soldiers and officers showcasing their creativity and encouraging them to create.
Over the past few weeks, soldiers of all units and from all across the country were presented the opportunity to submit their original artwork. Pieces included photography, paintings, sculptures and digital media.
160 pieces were submitted and were examined by a professional judging bored composed of well-known artists and instructors as well as representatives from the IDF (Zahal) Education and Youth Corps. The board selected several of the best pieces to be presented at a weeklong art exhibit in Tel Aviv. The winners of the competition received a scholarship to study at an art institute.
