On July 31, 2003, unknown assailants attempted to kidnap an IDF soldier waiting at a bus stop at the Yokenam Junction.

The soldier, serving in an IDF base in the Golan Heights, arrived at the bus stop via an organized ride from his base. Shortly after arriving at the junction, a private vehicle with three passengers drew up to the curb, and offered the soldier a ride.

Two people exited the vehicle after the soldier declined the offer. One of the individuals attempted to force the soldier into the car, whereupon the soldier resisted, and inserted a cartridge into his rifle.

The two unknown assailants then entered the car, and drove away. The incident is being investigated by the IDF Military Police and the Israeli Police. In light of the above-mentioned incident, the IDF wishes to re-emphasize the absolute ban against hitch-hiking.
