On Sunday (August 7), Brig. Gen. Oren Avman became the new chief of the IDF (Zahal) ground division, taking the place of Brig. Gen. Ilan Peretz.

The change of command ceremony was held in Latrun.

Brig. Gen. Peretz commanded the ground division for the past 40 months.

“I entered the job less than two years after the Second Lebanon War with the understanding that the mission of the division was to prepare the military for future challenges, with an emphasis on the readiness of forces for all possible scenarios,” Brig. Gen. Peretz said.

“The understanding that training is an important component of preparing the IDF (Zahal) for war is what led us,” Brig. Gen. Peretz continued. “Our goal was to improve the quality of training and thus the operational effectiveness of ground forces.”

Brig. Gen. Avman said: “It is a great privilege to be put into this meaningful position. This is a great responsibility during a time full of challenges for Israel and the IDF (Zahal).”
