The Chief of the IDF General Staff, Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz, appointed today Brig. Gen. Yiftah Ron Tal to the position of Commander of the IDF Land Forces, and promoted him to the rank of Major General.

Maj. Gen. Ron Tal will replace Maj. Gen. Ivri Sukenik in the position. Maj. Gen. Ivri sukenik has completed his tour of duty of three (3) years, and is to fill position of the IDF Military attack in the United States.

Maj. Gen. Ron Tal served in his last tour of duty as the Chief of Staff of the Army headquarters. Included are the Curricula Vitae of both Major Generals.

Maj. Gen. Ivri Sukenik

Maj. Gen. Sukenik was born in 1949 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

He joined the IDF in 1967 and served his regular service in the Armored Corps.

During the War of Attrition he served as an armored platoon commander and fought in the Sinai. During the Yom Kippur War he served as an armored company commander. He was awarded the Medal of Valor. During Operation Peace for the Galilee he served as a battalion commander, fighting Syrian forces.

Maj. Gen. Sukenik commanded an armored brigade and later a reserve division. He also commanded the IDF battalion commanders course, and commanded a regular armored formation in the north.

In August 1994 he was promoted to the rank of major general, and was appointed to a senior field position. In 1998 he was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed the Commander of Ground Corps, now called Army Headquarters.

Maj. Gen. Sukenik is a graduate of a division commander’s course and the IDF Command and Staff School. He has a BA in history from Tel Aviv University, and an MA in political science from Haifa University. Maj. Gen. Sukenik is married and father of three children.
