On Monday (April 23), the General Staff Forum held a ceremony in honor of the Israeli Independence Day. Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and Defense Minister Ehud Barak attended the event.

During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Gantz thanked all IDF (Zahal) soldiers and commanders who work day and night to defend the State of Israel. He also thanked security forces for the dedicated cooperation and contribution to the security. The Chief of Staff added: “This past year was full of new operational challenges, also foreshadowing future events. I wish us all a successful year.”

According to Lt. Gen. Gantz, “the atmosphere around us is changing and our response to the new challenges might be serious. We must look five and ten years into the future, recognize the challenges and place an appropriate response.” Chief of Staff then wished Israeli citizens a happy Independence Day.

Defense Minister, Ehud Barak said at the ceremony that “Israel, about to celebrate its 64th independence day, is stronger than ever. Just a few days after Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli Fallen Soldiers Remembrance Day and Independence Day are just around the corner. There is no expression more poignant for the transition from the Holocaust to resurrection, not forgetting its heavy price. 22,993 have fallen in Israel’s campaigns, the price is very heavy, each person is an entire world and many of us carry the memory of friends we’ve lost.”

“We are at the beginning of a very important year, it is our responsibility to do everything possible so that this year will be peaceful and be prepared in case it is not. We count on you, the State of Israel is strong thanks to the IDF (Zahal) and your work,” added Barak.
