“In a tank, there is unifying partnership,” Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz said on Saturday (March 3) at an event in Tel Aviv honoring wounded Armored Corps soldiers.
“People from the right and left, religious and secular, fight together within a tank,” Lt. Gen. Gantz said. “What allows us to be so different is the common purpose for which we are fighting. If we do not recognize the common purpose, we cannot continue. We have been protecting the country this way for 60 years and we have hundreds of years to continue protecting it.”
Ground Forces Commander Major General Sami Turgeman, who served in the Armored Corps, spoke of the courage and determination of tank fighters.
“This is an evening full of appreciation, respect and friendship,” Maj. Gen. Turgeman said. “I learned to recognize courage in times of battle, determination and inner strength. The Armored Corps is the iron fist and the arrowhead [in war].”
“[The Armored Corps] is the basis of the IDF (Zahal)’s victorious power in every war, and will continue to be so in future conflicts. These are heroic and courageous people throughout their lives. Even if the technology has changed, the essence of the Armored Corps has not – the same determination, dedication and striving for victory is your fingerprint.”
