On Wednesday (October 26), a Ground Forces officer course graduation ceremony was held at the officer school in Mitzpe Ramon. The ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, and Commander of the Ground Forces, Major General Sami Turgeman, as well as other IDF (Zahal) officers, families, friends and guests.

The graduates of the course will now return as officers to the various corps from which they came –  artillery, armor, engineering, field intelligence, infantry and paratroopers.

386 cadets finished the course. 7 percent were female. Jerusalem was the city that produced the most cadets in the class, followed by Tel Aviv.

At the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Gantz said: “The changes in the Middle East are redrawing the features of the threats Israel faces, in addition to the persistent efforts by terrorist organizations to attack Israel and its citizens. Together, these form an ensemble of threats against which Israel and the IDF (Zahal) must maintain readiness and capabilities and with which you will have to deal with as new IDF (Zahal) field commanders.”

On last week’s return of Sergeant First Class Gilad Shalit, Lt. Gen. Gantz said: “We wish SFC Gilad Shalit and his family a successful unification process and we wish for them happiness and normality.”

“In the IDF (Zahal), every soldier matters, every commander is influential and everyone is committed,” Lt. Gen. Gantz continued. “This is the strength of the bond between the state of Israel and its defenders, of our commitment to our mission and our people.”
