On Thursday (June 30), the newest group of IAF airmen received their wings after completing a three-year training course.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Hatzerim airbase and was attended by President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and IAF Commander Maj. Gen. Ido Nechustan.

“Our force is that of a strong and persistent nation – we do not seek war, but are determined and prepared to retaliate if a threat is posed upon us,” Lt. Gen. Gantz said.

“As long as we face attacks of delegitimization, fueled by false propaganda and hate flotillas, we will persevere and stand tall, armed with the truth and prepared to respond strongly to any threat to the state of Israel ” Lt. Gen. Gantz added.

Maj. Gen. Nechustan said that the current instability in the Middle East region has “accentuated the need to defend Israel as an island of stability.”

Maj. Gen. Nechustan said that the IAF plays a central role in all military scenarios – as a deterrent force, a decisive striking power and a strategic arm.

“Flexibility and a high capability to adapt are particularly vital during this time of uncertainty,” Maj. Gen. Nechustan said.
