On Saturday (August 20), Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz visited an Iron Dome battery deployed in southern Israel. The battery intercepted several Grad rockets launched by terrorists in Gaza at Israel.

Approximately 30 Grad, Qassam rockets and mortar shells were launched at communities in southern Israel on Saturday. Some of the rockets were successfully intercepted by the Iron Dome battery.

During his visit, Lt. Gen. Gantz said: “Starting with Thursday’s severe terrorist attack, the IDF (Zahal) has been operating on two fronts: in the south clearing up the scene of the attack, and clearing routes both in the south and in Gaza, as an immediate response to the terrorist attack and the rockets launched at Israel from the Gaza Strip. We cannot remain idle while being attacked at these two fronts.”

Lt. Gen. Gantz said that “we will continue to operate as necessary. I visited the soldiers operating the Iron Dome here and in other locations. We will continue defending as much as possible. I hope those responsible for the events realize that Israeli civilians will not be abandoned.”
