The IDF (Zahal) General Staff Forum held a ceremony at the Kirya in Tel Aviv on Thursday (May 5) to celebrate the upcoming Independence Day. Defense Minister Ehud Barak attended the function.

Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz thanked IDF (Zahal) commanders and soldiers for working day and night for the security of Israel.

“These are not normal times,” Lt. Gen. Gantz said. “The Middle East is experiencing upheavals and revolutions that we are closely studying.”

Lt. Gen. Gantz wished all Israelis a happy Independence Day.

Lt. Gen. Gantz added that “we must remember those who have fallen for Israel and their families.”

Defense Minister Barak said that, on the eve of Memorial Day, “we must remember those who are no longer with us. All of us carry these figures with us, wonderful people who were killed alongside us and give us direction and strength.”
