COGAT coordinates export of clothing from Gaza to foreign markets

Export of Gaza Strip-produced goods to markets abroad continues: Already this season, 600 tons of strawberries, 250 tons of tomatoes, 9 million flowers and more exported

Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories (COGAT) facilitated the export of textile clothing from the Gaza Strip to England as part of the implementation of Gaza export project and of other civilian policies.

Till today, approximately 2,000 sweaters were transferred from the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom land crossing. The clothing will arrive at the Israeli Ashdod port and will continue to England.

The textile export of part of the growing export of Gaza produced goods to international markets, including agriculture products and furniture. During the recent season, so far over 600 tons of strawberries, 250 tons of tomatoes, 50 tons peppers and approximately 9,000,000 flower units were exported. 

COGAT in action

Several months ago and for the first time since 2007, COGAT facilitated the export of two trucks loaded with dates from the Gaza Strip to Judea and Samaria, beginning the continuously growing export of Gaza produced goods to foreign markets.

Approximately one month prior, COGAT enabled export of tomatoes grown in the Gaza Strip for the first time since 2007. The fresh crops were exported to markets in Jordan via the Allenby Bridge.

COGAT will continue working with the Erez District Coordination Liaison to efficiently enable gradual export from the Gaza Strip to markets abroad and in general. This is part of the financial and civilian decree the Israeli government is obligated to fulfill in accordance with the current security conditions. In addition it assists in matters of health, education, agriculture and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip as well as in Judea and Samaria on a daily basis.

The COGAT Unit is subordinate to the Minister of Defense and is part of the General Staff. The unit carries out and implements civilian policy of the government of Israel in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip in coordination and conjunction with the Prime Minister’s Office, other government ministries, the security forces and the IDF (Zahal) General Staff.

As part of its activities with the international community, COGAT facilitates the activities of international organizations active in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip including in matters pertaining to infrastructure, education, health and housing projects and the implementation of humanitarian aid programs. It works with the CLA of the Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria’s Civil Administration to facilitate entrance of supplies such as gas, building materials, electrical appliances, ceramic parts, wheat and other foods, hygienic products and more.
