Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Yair Naveh visited the Nevatim airbase in southern Israel on Wednesday (January 4).

The context for the visit was the IDF (Zahal)’s initiative to move a number of its bases to the Negev Desert in the coming years.

The Nevatim airbase, which is located near Arad, is home to fighter and transport squadrons, intelligence units, and other forces.

Maj. Gen. Naveh met with the base’s commander, who spoke about future plans at Nevatim. Most of the plans are classified, but a main component is the absorption of the F-35 fighter plane. Another plan is to build “green” power plants that will provide the base with alternative energy.

“[Nevatim] will continue to grow and be the spearhead of the IAF’s fighter and transport networks,” the Nevatim commander told IDF (Zahal) Website.
