In a ceremony held today at Har Yehoram, near Eilat, the Eilat Regional Brigade was officially established. GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Tal Russo and Commander of the Edom Division Brig. Gen. Nadav Padan, attended the ceremony.
The new regional brigade is the third regional brigade in the Edom Division, which already includes two other brigades – the Sagi Regional Brigade and the Arava Regional Brigade. Col. Roei Be’eri, who previously served as the Commander of the Arava Brigade received the offical appointment today.
Maj. Gen. Tal Russo said that “we live in a period of change and upheaval. We are implementing numerous changes, including the foundation of the new regional brigade and a change of our concept of operation. We are currently completing the new security fence along the border with Egypt in the area of Eilat. We have significantly reduced infiltration along the border. The establishment of the Eilat Regional Brigade is the final touch in implementing the changes that will improve security in the region. “
The Commander of the Edom Division, Brig. Gen. Nadav Padan, stated that “the changes in the region and the influence of Gaza-based and local terror organizations, pose new operational challenges. This reality compels us to change our operational perception. The empowerment of the Edom Division and the foundation of the Eilat Regional Brigade manifest our adaption to the growing threats while ensuring the development of civilian life in the area. “
The Commander of the Eilat Regional Brigade, Col. Roei Be’eri, stated that “the task that lies ahead is to protect the residents of Eilat and its surrounding area, providing them with an improved sense of security. The process of the brigade’s foundation, which began months ago, was a result of command and operational challenges. I’m certain that we will live up to the upcoming tasks and challenges. “
