Export of Cherry Tomatoes from Gaza to Europe Set to Begin

As part of the decision by the Ministerial Committee of Security Affairs, cherry tomatoes will be exported to Europe. The export was made possible after administrative work overseen by the Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories, Maj. Gen. Eitan Dangot

As part of the decision by the Ministerial Committee of Security Affairs to expand economic activity from the Gaza Strip, cherry tomatoes will be exported via the Kerem Shalom Crossing to European markets this week. The export is also part of a project initiated by the government of the Netherlands.

Beginning November 2010 until yesterday, the project has exported: 367 tons of strawberries transported (184 truckloads), 5.3 million carnations (63 truckloads) and 6 tons of peppers (3 truckloads).

The export of cherry tomatoes was made possible after administrative work overseen by the Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories (COGAT), Maj. Gen. Eitan Dangot and with the coordination of security officials, administrative heads of the Ministry of Defense crossings, representatives from the Government of the Netherlands, representatives of the Palestinian Authority, and after various meetings with Palestinian farmers in the Gaza Strip at the Coordination and Liaison Administration in the Erez Crossing.
