Last week, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz approved the awarding of a citation to the late First Sergeant Moshe Naftali, who fell in battle during a terrorist attack on Route 12 north of Eilat last August.
The citation, given by GOC Southern Command Major General Tal Russo, was awarded to First Sgt. Naftali for the bravery and courage he showed during the multi-pronged terrorist attack in which eight Israelis were killed.
The GOC Southern Command said that the attack was grave and tragic, but that the results could have been even worse if not for the actions of First Sgt. Naftali.
First Sgt. Naftali immediately understood the nature of the terrorist attack and strove to thwart it, displaying courage, bravery and self-sacrifice.
The actions of First Sgt. Naftali serve as an example for future generations of IDF (Zahal) commanders.
