Foreign Military Attaches and Peacekeeping Forces Show Support for IDF

On Wednesday evening (May 6), the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi, hosted a reception for the foreign military attaches in Israelיand for the representatives of the peacekeeping forces, in celebration of Israel’s 61st Independence Day. The reception, which took place at Camp Aviv, located in Tel Aviv, was attended by high-ranking Israeli officers, such as the Head of the IDF (Zahal) Planning Directorate, Major General Amir Eshel, and the Head of the IDF (Zahal) Strategic Division, Brigadier General Yossi Heymann..

In addition, UNDOF Force Commander, Major General Wolfgang Jilke, and the Dean of the Foreign MIliarty Attaches, Col. Nikolaus Egger, spoke on behalf of the guests. “It is not by chance that Israel is among the few countries that has the Memorial Day for the fallen soldiers, Yom HaZikaron, so close to Independence Day. This connection best represents the strong link existing between the freedom of a people and the price that has been paid for that people in terms of blood and sacrifice in the defense of the State of Israel”, says Col. Nikolaus Egger. “Above all, to be celebrated are the defenders of these values, the Israel Defense Forces. Those who everyday, with their professionalism and determination, make sure that Israel continues to prosper.”

The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, concluded the evening with a toast thanking the participants for their contribution to maintaining a stable Middle East. “I think we are all united in our desire to see one day that peace and prosperity will be the future of this region.”
