“We understand that lately there has been an increase in the level of incidents and riots in the region of Judea and Samaria, so our forces must increase their alertness and maintain their operational preparedness, at all levels, starting with the individual soldier,” GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon said yesterday (Monday, November 3), during a surprise exercise carried out in the Binyamin Regional Brigade.

The drill involved soldiers of the Reshef Artillery Battalion, alongside supporting forces – including the Israel Police, the Israel Border Police, riot police, and Magen David Adom – and it simulated violent riots, including gunfire at the soldiers.

“There have been many incidents of rioting since Operation Pillar of Defense, and we expect that to continue,” Commander of the Reshef Artillery Battalion Lt. Col. Tzachi Goldring told the IDF (Zahal) Website. “We must be prepared for any scenario – from a gun [attack] to an attack involving explosives.”

“Cooperation is the keyword. We integrated forces with the police, the Border Police, trackers, and others. These are many forces working simultaneously in order to help the combat effort,” said Commander of the Binyamin Regional Brigade Col. Yossi Pinto. “Due to the nature of things, the alertness and preparedness of the forces rises when the incidents of hostile terror activity increase, and this is our point of strength.”
