On Thursday morning (Mar. 05), IAF forces struck a squad of armed Palestinian men near the security fence in the central Gaza Strip. At around 08:00, the armed squad was identified after they fired an anti-tank missile an IDF (Zahal) patrol along the security fence. Following the anti-tank fire, the patrol forces pursued the gunmen into the Gaza Strip and directed an IAF strike against the squad. The forces exited the Gaza Strip safely and no injuries were reported.

The strike this Thursday morning is part of last night’s joint operation between the IDF (Zahal) and the General Security Forces, where the IAF hit Khalen Sharon, a senior Islamic Jihad commander, in the northern Gaza Strip. Khaled Sharan is responsible for firing rockets at Israel including the recent rocket fire at Ashkelon.

In addition, on Wednesday morning (Mar. 04) the IAF struck three smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip, in response to rocket fire that was launched at Israeli territory. The strike caused a series of secondary explosions to occur indicating the presence of weapons and/or munitions in the tunnels.

The IDF (Zahal) Spokesperson emphasizes again that Hamas is a terrorist organization responsible for maintaining the peace in southern Israeli communities and the IDF (Zahal) will continue to respond severely at any attempt to disrupt the peace.
