In a combined Israel Security Agency (ISA) and IDF (Zahal) operation, ten Islamic Jihad Movement activists involved in terror activity were arrested over the last few months.
While investigating the activists, ISA uncovered a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) regional headquarters that cooperates with the organization’s headquarters in Syria and receives large sums of money subsidizing terror activity and weapons. The discovered headquarters also has close ties with its counterparts in the Gaza Strip and the organization’s financial branch.
Simultaneously, the headquarters directed military activity including creation of a terrorist squad planning terror activity against IDF (Zahal) soldiers, shooting attacks against Israeli communities as well as abductions and negotiations. Members of the squad were also involved in violent riots attacking IDF (Zahal) soldiers in the region and create explosives.
The headquarters partook in organized student activity at universities including recruiting and propaganda.
Additionally, during investigations kilograms of potassium to create explosives, a Kalashnikov gun, a magazine, approximately 150 bullets and 2,050 NIS for terror purposes were discovered.
Charges were filed against the arrested terrorists during December 2011 for engaging in illegal activity, interaction with enemies, storage of weapons and more.
