IDF celebrates Israel’s independence

The IDF (Zahal) will be opening several bases throughout the country to the general public, in addition to offering Naval and Air Force demonstrations throughout the day.

The IDF (Zahal) will be celebrating Israel’s 62nd Independence Day by opening several bases to the public, offering a wide variety of festivities.

The Israeli Naval Base in Eilat will be open Monday evening (Apr. 19) and the Israeli Naval Base in Haifa will be open Tuesday (Apr. 20). The Israeli Naval Corps will also offer a showcase of 12 different naval vessels along Israeli coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, starting at Haifa’s Carmel Beach, passing through the coast and ending in Ashkelon. An additional naval display is scheduled to take place in Eilat.

The Israeli Air Force Bases in Ovda, Tel Nof, Ramat David, and the IAF Technological College in Haifa will also be open Tuesday (Apr. 20). In addition, the Israeli Air Force Museum in Hatzerim will be open all day Tuesday (Apr. 20), offering a variety of events, including guided tours, children’s activities, a performance by the IAF performance groups, and a demonstration of 1950s era aircraft. The Israel Air Force will also hold five aircraft demonstrations throughout Israeli skies in addition to a helicopter display will take place above the residence of President Shimon Peres and an aerobatic display will fly over the country.

Entrance to IDF (Zahal) bases with weapons or pets is restricted and identification cards must be presented when entering the bases.
