Hundreds of Palestinians are rioting at four different locations in Judea and Samaria, throwing rocks, explosives and blazing tires at IDF (Zahal) and security forces, who are responding with nonlethal riot dispersal means to contain the incident. No injuries were reported thus far.
The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz toured borders at the Central and Northern Commands today, Friday (March 30), along with commanders in the field, and ordered IDF (Zahal) forces to remain alert for any possible occurrences, specifically illegal and violent riots by Palestinians in the region that might break out.
The Central Command prepared for the illegal and violent riots expected to break out today. Brig. Gen. Hagi Mordehai, Judea and Samaria Division Commander, said that Israel police forces, Border Police, IDF (Zahal) soldiers, Israeli Magen David Adom medical forces, and Civil Administration representatives are operating in the field. “We prepared for occurrences similar to those we prepared for in September, which we use a significant resource today as well. The knowledge we acquired was conveyed to forces in the field, after operational planning and combat regulations instated over the past week,” said Brig. Gen. Mordechai.
According to Division Commander, the preparation was intensive since “illegal and violent riots may break out in the region in the coming days.” The Command prepared for riots at central posts including: Kalanda, Bitunia, Rama, Rachel’s Tomb and Jerusalem –affiliated regions. Locations where riots commonly break out were prepared as well.
In accordance with the directives of the Minister of Defense and as part of the situation assessments in the IDF (Zahal), a general closure will be implemented in the Judea and Samaria region.
The closure will begin today, Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 23:59. The closure will be lifted on the night of Friday, March 30, 2012 at 23:59, in accordance with security assessments.
