A number of terrorists were seen approaching the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday morning (Feb. 28), seemingly trying to plant an explosive device to harm IDF (Zahal) soldiers. As a response, IDF (Zahal) forces fired at the suspects and identified a hit.

Two weeks ago a similar event took place when IDF (Zahal) forces recognized a number of terrorists approaching the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip overnight, trying to place an explosive device in an attempt to harm IDF (Zahal) soldiers. To thwart the attack, IDF (Zahal) forces fired at the terrorists, three of whom were injured.

Terrorists are often found using the area around the security fence when seemingly innocent people approach the fence to mask the planting of explosives and to plan attacks and attempted kidnapping of IDF (Zahal) soldiers all of which endanger Israeli civilians and security forces operating in the area.

The IDF (Zahal) will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli civilians or IDF (Zahal) soldiers, and will continue to respond harshly to combat terror. The IDF (Zahal) holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it.
