The IDF (Zahal) is completing its preparations for the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) holiday, which starts on Wednesday night (September 28).

IDF (Zahal) dining halls are working hard to prepare rich and diverse holiday meals for soldiers. For this purpose, IDF (Zahal) dining halls were provided with nine tons of fish, 500 units of gefilte fish patties, 22 tons of turkey, 17 tons of chicken and 16 tons of beef.

As part of the holiday tradition, IDF (Zahal) dining halls were given 28 tons of apples to be dipped in three tons of honey. Additionally, IDF (Zahal) dining halls were issued 45,000 units of braided challah bread, three tons of dried fruit, five and a half tons of pomegranates and six tons of yellow dates.

For dessert, IDF (Zahal) dining halls have received seven tons of honey cakes.

The IDF (Zahal) has invested great resources to insure that soldiers will be able to celebrate the holiday on bases, fortified positions, boats and submarines.

Holiday vouchers worth 250 shekels were issued to lone soldiers as well as soldiers who qualify for family payments.

Holiday meals will be held in soldier hostels across the country.

On the holiday, like the rest of the year, IDF (Zahal) soldiers and commanders will be on duty – on patrols, in situation rooms, on guard duty, at observation points, in pillboxes, at crossings and at checkpoints – in order to allow Israel’s residents to celebrate the holiday properly.

The commanders and soldiers of the IDF (Zahal) wish the Jewish people a happy New Year!
