The IDF (Zahal) reduced its annual fuel consumption by 13 percent in 2010. The reduction was achieved within the framework of a project led by the IDF (Zahal)’s Technology and Logistics Branch.

The reduction represented a quarterly savings of around two million liters of fuel and around 14 million shekels (based on fuel prices at the time).

40 percent of the reduction came from decreased fuel use in private vehicles.

According to data gathered during the past four months, an even higher reduction of fuel consumption is anticipated in 2011 by the Technology and Logistics Branch.

In addition to technical aspects, the Technology and Logistics Branch credited a change in the driving culture of IDF (Zahal) officers and soldiers for the reduction in fuel consumption.
