Sgt. Yehonatan Ben Yishai (20) passed away this morning (Thursday, August 30) at Haifa’s Rambam Hospital. He had been injured by a tank on Monday.
His family has been notified. The IDF (Zahal) expresses its deepest sympathy for his family.
Sgt. Ben Yishai’s funeral will take place at 5:30 this evening at Ashdod’s military cemetery. The IDF (Zahal) respects his family’s wishes to avoid media coverage of the funeral.
Sgt. Ben Yishai was critically injured by a tank during an integrated exercise of infantry and armored forces in the Golan Heights on Monday. He received primary medical care on the spot and was then transferred to Haifa’s Rambam Hospital for continuing care.
Following the incident, all training exercises in the Golan Heights were suspended, pending an initial investigation. Following the initial investigation, training exercises returned to normal. However, a more comprehensive investigation is ongoing.
